To avoid SPAM, don't publish an undisguised email address on email lists or on your web site. I have taken to publishing mine like this:

If you hate SPAM as much as I do, you will find Mailwasher a better help than many. It doesn't eradicate SPAM, but does allow you to view your emails before you download them, deleting SPAM and sending Not Known At This Address messages to spammers much more efficiently than your ISP's web-based mail service.
