David meets second cousin, Genevieve in Drummoyne, April,2001

Where It All Began

On Thursday, 19th April, 2001, Joan and David drove from Bathurst to Drummoyne, to the home of my Uncle Ben, his daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Michael. By coincidence, Elizabeth and Michael, and Joan and David were married on the same day — 24th November, 1973— though the Sages were married in England, and Joan and David were married in Newcastle, Australia. It is also Elizabeth's birthday.

Elizabeth and her family are living in the same house where I went to stay with them in 1954, when Aunty Peg and Uncle Ben looked after me, while Mum was in hospital having Malcolm and Christopher. It was here that I first heard piano music played by my Aunty Peg. One rendition of The Robin's Return and a few pages of Humoreske, and I was hooked!

2002 Update. Sadly, Michael died in 2002. I'm glad we went to see him and Elizabeth when we did.
